Hi All,

For those who are entering the Mega Meon, it would be fantastic if we could all ride in club kit. Last year we had some great exposure in the Wiggle video and we looked fab all lined up before the start Very Happy

If you'd like to wear with pride the kit on the day, please let me know what you'd like. Question

I'm all signed up for the Epic!

Anyone who is unsure of what to do in the way of preparation, I would recommend the sportive survival guide thread. It’s quite 'wordy' (not sure exactly who the dull bloke was that wrote that) but it does help you on the right path.

If anyone has any questions RE: Mega (or mege) Meon then drop me a line. Last year (as Lisa said) it was a storming ride and enjoyed by all. Grab your club kit now so we can all be resplendent in our red white and blue.

Rich.

Very Happy The route is posted today and I've made a link to MapMyRide

http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/39201028 where you can download the epic route. Very Happy

Registration starts early with setting off times for epic between 0800 and 0900, shorter distances go from 0830 - 0930 Very Happy

I'm plannig to go more or less at the beginning 0800. I know there aren't as many doing the epic this time, so there is possibly more opportunity to 'go for gold' at a 16.5 mph average pace? The epic route looks very good, with loads of time on our home patch. Lets big up the PNECC and kit. Rob can you list the current riders and distances? alien

Robski,

I've signed up for the fun ride, but not sure if i'll be there as i'm still suffering from crashing and this is all conspiring against me. My right leg is still bruised and not fully flexable also I took my forks out just to check them and found the carbon steerer has a crack in it, so they're a right off. Problem here is that I've a 74 head angle so only 40mm rake will do and to get a decent pair of them in the uk is proving a bit of a challenge. Looks like wound up carbons which are a lot of money. If my bike is up and running I will start and see how it goes on the ride. Fingers crossed

Good job i'm not on strike.

Carl

So are all the epic riders on for the GOLD standard time?

Dave G has mentioned that he would like to have a crack at it and if there are more takers then it will become that much more attainable.

All for one and one for all!

Rich.

As a mass group our pace will be quicker as drafting is allowed. Smile
Also riding in a group the enthusiasm is kept at a higher level, which in turn helps you climb out of your low points. Your fellow riders will ensure liquids, gels and foods are always being taken.
I'm sure some of you have blown up in the past while riding and is probably the reason athletes fail to maintain their pace. So riding in a group would be the best bet in many ways. Preload with good foods a couple of days before which will enable you to be and proteined up on the day. Carry gels to get you round plus electrolyte tablets to replenish what you loose. Don't rely on the foodstops to get you round, they only have instant boost foods.

Lastly:
last year on the ride we left as a group, then came back as a team!
You may not think you can do it, as a team we can.

I don't know what the gold time is but I'm all for a gold attempt so long as it's not anything ridiculous. I don't want to slow the group down if they're going for a fast one but I'm certainly up for a team effort!

Got to go for Gold!! you only have to avg 16.5 mph (I think!) which in a group should be easy? Neutral

Another question is, if I'm doing the Epic and going for gold, do I have to shave my legs?
I might do regardless, statement of intent and all that.

Very Happy shaving legs? cyclops

Cool The priority is your preparation up to the point of setting off. Due to events this weekend (I'll tell you some other time) I missed my opportunity to go out for a good 4 hours, luckily I'm going out this evening, doing a circuit around hambledon and newtown a 'few' times and will get some hours in. Yes Gold would be a target but don't beat yourself up about it or doubt your ability. The feeling from last year finishing in the same group we left in, was a brilliant feeling, and that to me really was the icing on the cake. alien

Managed 64.5mls in 4 hours; 8 mls spin to Chairmakers then x5 laps of Worlds End-Hambledon-Grenville Hill-Sheep fields-Soberton-Newtown-Chairmakers (10mls). x5 Grenville hill was fun, finished the ride off with a right turn up out of Newtown, then up over Portsdown hill - oh fun! alien
