At 68 years young Ray Gregory will be running a marathon for the first time when he runs the London Marathon on Sunday 13th April. Ray is fundraising for the mental health charity Mind in memory of his elder son Ben who fell prey to psychosis and took his own life four years ago at the age of 25.

To help Ray achieve his target goal of £2,000 we are hosting a charity food & quiz night on Monday 7th April. The cost for this event will be £10 per person with £5 going directly to Rays charity. The event will be held at the VIBC as usual and food will start at 7pm with the quiz starting at 8pm finishing at 10:30pm. Ray has some fantastic prizes that can be won and they are £50 of his own money or a Guaranteed Entry into the 2015 London Marathon!

Please feel free to invite family & friends to this event and for the teams to consist of around 6-8 people. Please follow the link below to make your food choices and support ray in this massive challenge!!

Mind over Matter?!

At 68 years young Ray Gregory will be running a marathon for the first time when he runs the London Marathon on Sunday 13th April. Ray is fundraising for the mental health charity Mind in memory of his elder son Ben who fell prey to psychosis and took his own life four years ago at the age of 25.

Mind over matter also sums up Ray’s training! He is committed to a creditable time but whilst a regular cyclist who looks upon exercise as his non-chemical anti-depressant cum stress buster, Ray is by his own admission “by no means a runner”. So the bike is in the shed, which is why we haven’t seen him on a Sunday for a while, and he is running at least 25miles (four and a half hours) a week, his longest run to date is 14 miles.

You may not be aware that mental ill health will affect one in four of us every year with more than 100,000 in England and Wales spending time in hospital for mental health problems annually and more than 100 people in the UK taking their own lives every week. Despite this, government funding for mental health support and treatment is falling in real terms and Mind works to fill this gap. The Mind Infoline is a lifeline to many in need of support but it costs £8.70 to take each call. Mind also works with Government to promote mental health needs, provides help in the community and legal advice on mental health issues. Ray’s fundraising page at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserProfilePage.action?userUrl=RaymondGregory2 , please donate generously and help him pay for as many of those desperate calls as possible. Every sponsor’s name will go ‘into the hat’ with a chance of winning one of the two prizes which Ray and Ben’s brother Matthew have donated!
