I was chatting to someone who does this with some of their friends and I thought it could be a good idea for an informal bit of competition!
How it works: Thread on the forum showing the month's segment. That way its possible to cherry pick one which doesn't involve stupid risks e.g. not stopping at junctions with poor visibility.
People then ride the segment and post a link to their best time that month on it. A leaderboard of these times then dictates the points earned (in a similar way to the F1 race points system). No limits on number of attempts, no organisation required other than totting up points totals and linking the segments.
Winner gets gloating rights.
Thoughts?
Example of how it could have worked for the 30 days:
Segment: East -> West Meon

My (puny) submission: 6:40

I see Ben Barron has done a ride there this month, so he would submit 6:19:

Giving him P1 and me P2
I'd be happy to do the organisation bit. We could also use the thread to discuss the next month's segment.
A refinement to try and level the playing field a little could be doing the times as time difference to the KOM/QOM (depending on your gender) if you think that's fairer.
