It is with great sadness that I have to post that PNECC Life Member Eric Newman passed away last night.
Eric joined the PNECC in 1950 and was an accomplished racing cyclist from the 1950s to the 1980s. In 1982 he became Club Secretary, a post he filled for quarter of a century before becoming Chairman from 2007 to 2009.
On a personal note Eric was one of my referees when I joined the Civil Service in 1983 and I spent many happy years trying to better him in time trials, not an easy task despite him being my senior by over 30 years. He will be sadly missed.
The whole Club sends it condolences to Eric's wife Pat.
Funeral details will be published in due course.
