1 Meon Valley Riser 2013 on Mon 26 Nov 2012, 06:54

This sportive is now open for entry and i'm in for next year on the 84miler. Its a great route with plenty of climbs (most of which many of you have done on the Sunday rides). If anyone is up for it then get on and enter to get the early bird price of £22.

Cheers

Mark

Potentially doing the Ham Hill Road Race that day, at 60 miles it seems like a good option Very Happy

Rich Francis, Keith Foster and myself did the short distance last year. Not sure where Keith is these days but Rich and I will probably do that one again.

Hi Mark
I'm in, and riding the 46 mile route. After the recent poor weather and a heavy cold it's a nice incentive to put some extra effort in over the next 6 weeks to make the climbs that bit easier.

Did the 46 miler last year as my first sportive (picture is from it) and would thoroughly recommend it; lovely route and seemed very well organised.

Rich Francis and I are in. Just the 46 miler though. last year we met at the George and span down to the start. I still remember how cold it was that morning. Shall we do this again or meet at the school?

Carl, i'm planning on riding to the start, so if you want to all meet at The George, sounds like a plan.

What time shall we meet?

Cheers

8am outside the George any good? First riders off at 8.30 so should be plenty of time to sign in (thaw out) and get going. What do you reckon PNE'rs?

Seems fine by me Carl, should bump my round trip up to about 70 miles or so. Good job I didn't opt for the 84 mile route. Very Happy

Great it's a date. Sunday 7th April at 8.00am will see the PNE sportive express hit the road for 2013. Look out Froome.

My sources tell me we may have at least one more member keen to join the Sportive team.

With my Committee hat on

The road racing guys are certainly putting themselves about and entering races, and the time trial specialists will soon emerge in March.

PNE are without doubt covering many bases and showing an excellent presence all round.

As Mark said earlier in this thread the MV Riser covers many of the roads we use for the club runs so if any of our new members would like to join us and get a feel for the group spirit that evolves from these events and get an early taster of our signature rides (The Mega Meon & Southern Sportive) here is a link to the site http://www.meonvalleyriser.co.uk/

This event is 7 weeks away and more than enough time to get into shape to cover the 46 mile route comfortably with a reasonable time. As you know Sportives are not races and they are not at race pace; they are mass start time trials in effect so you don't get dropped.

Have I tempted a few more to join us.. I hope so.

I've just had a scroll through the MV Riser entrants page and here is the current PNE contingent.

84 Miles
Mark C
Ray W
Tom G
Mike C

46 Miles
Graham C
Carl B
Rich F
Katie
Migs
Ian N

Not a bad turnout at all for early April, given the poor weather so far this year.

Only about 300 entrants to date so plenty of room to sign up.

Come Mega Meon time it could well be an impressive showing from PNE this year.

I certainly hope it warms up soon.

I rode yesterday morning for about 29 miles and the cold headwind didn't make for a comfortable ride at times.
